Jessica Halloran is one of two nominees in the sport news reporting category of the 2008 Walkely awards for Australian journalism. (Winners will be announced on 27 November.)

She has been nominated for her articles in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age about Olympic champion diver Matthew Mitcham, her pictured with his partner Lachlan Fletcher. They include:

• Out, proud and ready to go for gold, in May 2008; and
• Out and out champion celebrates, following Mitcham's Olympic gold on 24 Aug.

Jessica was one of those hugged by Matthew as he rejoiced in his win.

Ms Halloran's work is good in every sense. She exercised the journalist's nose for a story, but did it in an interesting and responsible way. She told the story in a positive, frank, way that respected the people in it. And she writes well and accurately.
